Can Dr. Kanal tell me in advance whether I am suitable, before I travel?
Yes. In a remote assessment you tell us about your eyes and your current values, and Dr. Kanal tells you whether a treatment is realistic for you. If the answer is no, you do not travel. The final decision is always made at the examination in Germany.
How many times do I need to come to Germany?
Usually one visit is enough. You stay a few days: the examination, the treatment and the first check take place during the same stay. How many days you need depends on the treatment — for laser treatment usually three, for lens surgery sometimes a little longer. We tell you the exact plan before you book anything.
Which clinic do I go to: Wiesbaden or Düsseldorf?
Both are our surgical centres, and Dr. Kanal operates in both. Choose the one that is easier to reach: Wiesbaden via Frankfurt Airport, Düsseldorf via Düsseldorf Airport. Examination and treatment take place in the same centre. Our other ten clinics are for local check-ups.
Do you speak English? Are the documents in English?
Yes. Consultation, treatment and all written documents — report, invoice and drops plan — are available in English as well as German. If you need another language, tell us in advance.
How do I pay, and will my insurer accept the invoice?
After the examination you receive a written quote. After treatment you receive an itemised invoice according to the German fee schedule (GOÄ), which private insurers and many national schemes accept for reimbursement. Ask your insurer beforehand what they cover.
What happens with the follow-up checks when I am back home?
After you return home, your routine eye examinations continue with your local eye doctor. You take a written report from us with the treatment details and the checks we recommend, in English or German. If anything is unclear or your eyes feel different, contact us: we are reachable by WhatsApp and e-mail and, if needed, speak to your doctor directly.
Does Dr. Kanal really perform every operation himself?
Yes. Dr. med. Levent Kanal performs the operations at both surgical centres himself — laser, lens and cataract surgery. The examination before and the first check after take place under his supervision in the same centre.
Which airport should I fly to?
For Wiesbaden: Frankfurt Airport (FRA), about 35 km, 40 minutes by S-Bahn. For Düsseldorf: Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), about 7 km, 15 minutes by taxi or S-Bahn. Cologne Bonn also works for Düsseldorf, about one hour by train. The map under “Find the clinic closest to you → From abroad” shows the routes.
