Presbyond is a laser treatment for reading glasses after 45. It is based on Femto-LASIK: one eye is set for distance, the other slightly for near, with an extended depth of focus in between. The brain blends the two images into one. You see near and far without glasses — in most patients within a few weeks.

- 45 or older, and reading glasses are your main problem.
- Distance error, if any, within the laser range (about −8 to +4 D, astigmatism up to 5 D).
- Cornea thick enough for a flap. We measure this.
- You tolerate a small difference between the eyes — we test this with trial lenses first.
- No cataract yet. The natural lens is still clear.

Visit 1 · about 90 minutes
Examination
- We measure the cornea, tear film, pupils and your exact prescription.
- We find your dominant eye and test blended vision with trial lenses. If the trial is negative, we say so.
- No soft lenses for 1–2 weeks before, no hard lenses for 3–4 weeks. Pupils are dilated; do not drive afterwards.
- Dr. Kanal explains your results and the right method for you.
Visit 2 · about 2 hours
Treatment day
- Come without make-up or lenses. Bring sunglasses and, if you can, a companion.
- Drops numb the eye. The femtosecond laser creates the flap in about 20 seconds. You feel pressure, not pain.
- The excimer laser reshapes each cornea to its own target — distance for one eye, near for the other — in 20–40 seconds.
- The flap is laid back. After a short rest you go home. Distance vision clears within hours.

- We check the flap and both eyes, and go through your drops. Most patients see well enough to come on their own.
- Adaptation: distance is clear first, near follows over days to weeks. Afterwards, routine eye check-ups near your home.

What you do
- Use your drops as scheduled for 2–4 weeks.
- Do not rub your eyes for 4 weeks — the flap needs this time.
- Use both eyes together; do not cover one to “test” it. The blend needs both.
- Red, painful eye or sudden blur? Call us the same day.
What to expect
Distance vision clear within a day. Near vision improves as the brain adapts, usually within weeks. Final result after about 3 months. Published studies on laser blended vision show stable results.
What it does not do
It does not stop the eye from ageing: the natural lens keeps changing and a cataract can still develop later. Very fine print in dim light may occasionally still need glasses.

Adaptation takes time
Some patients need weeks until near and far feel natural. A few do not accept the blend — that is why we test before, and the near eye can be adjusted.
Dry eyes for a while
Common after the flap, usually for a few weeks. Drops help.
Halos at night
Rings around lights in the first weeks. They fade in almost all patients.
Residual value
Rarely the target is not fully reached. A small touch-up is usually possible.
Flap complications
Rare. Wrinkles or a shifted flap, mostly after rubbing or a knock in the first days. That is why you protect the eye.
Very rare complications
Infection or inflammation under the flap are very rare. Our centres work to clinical hygiene standards.

What exactly is Presbyond?
A Femto-LASIK with two targets: the dominant eye is set for distance, the other slightly for near, with an extended depth of focus. The brain blends both into one image. Most patients read and drive without glasses.
Will I still see depth and 3D?
Yes. The difference between the eyes is small — smaller than in classic monovision — so depth perception stays good for everyday life. We test this with trial lenses before treatment.
How long until I can read without glasses?
Distance vision is clear within a day. Near vision improves as the brain adapts, usually over a few weeks.
Can I still drive at night?
Usually yes. Halos are possible in the first weeks and fade. The distance eye keeps night vision sharp; we check this at your follow-ups.
Both eyes on the same day?
Yes. Both eyes are treated in one session, each with its own target.
